FGI PRESENTS CELEBRATE STYLE: A SINGULAR SENSATION

Designer Trina Turk will receive the Crystal Style Award

(Palm Springs, CA) - Fashion Group International® of Palm Springs and Desert Communities, Inc. will present Celebrate Style: A Singular Sensation! on December 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Palm Springs Art Museum.  Philanthropist and Friend of FGI Jackie Lee Houston is Honorary Chairwoman with FGI members and founders Katherine Hough and Tammy Lavin serving as co-chairwomen.

The FGI fundraiser is a multi-faceted celebration of its 20th Anniversary with a salute to its founders and a presentation of the annual Crystal Style Award to designer Trina Turk, a Palm Springs fashion icon of national renown who is celebrating her 15th anniversary.  This award celebrates a man or woman in the industry who has had a significant impact on the world of style.  Past recipients have included Nicole Miller, Peri Wolfman, Zandra Rhodes, James Galanos, Fe Zandi and John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems.

The celebration begins with a program in the Annenberg Theater of the acclaimed Palm Springs Art Museum, continuing on the main level for a cocktail party with music, dancing and docents to take guests and members through the exhibition, Richard Avedon: Fashion, Stage, and Screen.

Celebrate Style:  A Singular Sensation! underlines the importance of individuality in style, not only in fashion, but in life. As prime examples, photographer Richard Avedon bucked convention with his particular vision through the lens and was renowned for his individuality, his “singular sensation.”   Designer Trina Turk ripped the seams of the ordinary in fashion, harkening back to Midcentury Modern with her Palm Springs-influenced style, evolving into her new Holiday 2010 collection without losing her original beat and bringing her “singular sensation” and vision of ready-to-wear into the contemporary millennium.
